New Xbox 360 Disc Format Incompatible With Some Consoles

Xbox 360

Microsoft has devised a method to add an additional gigabyte of storage on Xbox 360 game discs. This portion of the disc was previously reserved for anti Piracy and DVD audio tracks. Microsoft decided to remove those portions from the DVDs to free up space for developers to use. Microsoft is developing a firmware update for all Xbox 360 consoles which enables them to read these new updated discs. The update will be officially released later today, May 19. Allowing more data to be written on their DVDs will make the Xbox 360 have a longer life span on the market.

Netflix Now Kinect Compatable

Netflix

As promised Microsoft has released a Kinect compatible version of Netflix.  The functionality looks great. Players use simple motions to navigate the interface of movie selection and movie navigation. One major flaw with the Kinect version is that if a movie or show is not listed as one of the suggestions it says, "For more choices and search, use your controller." In other words players can't just wave their arms to watch any show they have to use a controller to search the Netflix database. Kotaku has already complained about it here.

The functionality doesn't look nearly as bad as they've said, but it feels like a half functional tool has been released. Netflix hardly ever suggests the exact show desired and eliminating the search functionality is a huge inconvenience. When Netflix was first released for the Wii, there was search option, but they quickly enhanced it and re-released it with the capability. Maybe Microsoft will do the same.

Red Dead Redemption Pre-Order Bonuses as DLC

Every time a new game comes along it is to be expected that retailers such Amazon or Gamestop to have their own pre-order bonus. In some cases this can cause exclusion of content, big or small. This content is purely exclusive for a short time, with Red Dead Redemption being no exception. Former pre-order exclusive content is being released as DLC this week on XBLA and PSN. Each of these bonuses will be available for one dollar, for those that choose to buy the content.

A refresher of these three bonuses follows below if you need a little help remembering.

The Deadly Assassin Outfit "John Marston's Deadly Assassin outfit causes your Dead Eye meter to regenerate at twice the speed. With more Dead Eye, you have more time to place each shot with total accuracy, making you the deadliest gunslinger in any fight."

The Golden Guns Weapon Pack "Available for use in the Red Dead Redemption Single Player story, the player who wields the Golden Guns receives more Fame for each kill. The more Fame you get, the more in-game side missions become available. So there will be more opportunities to duel, more kidnapped townsfolk to rescue and you can bribe lawmen for less."

The War Horse "There are countless horses to be found in the massive world of Red Dead Redemption, but none is stronger, faster or tougher than the War Horse. Whether storming gang hideouts, exploring the wilderness for hidden treasure, or outrunning the law, the War Horse gives gunslingers an advantage in nearly every situation."
