Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City Details

Slant Six Games Logo

In the latest issue of the Official Xbox Magazine it has been revealed that Slant Six Games, the developer behind recent SOCOM titles such as Confrontation, Tactical Strike and Fireteam Bravo 3, will be helping Capcom out with their latest online multiplayer effort, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City.

The issue itself contains a plethora of details on the game, but we'll go on and list a good portion of them just to get you caught up on the basics.

* The game takes place in 1998, a time where Resident Evil fans already know what's set to take place. The title lets you enjoy the series from a new perspective, as the men and women who are technically responsible for it all.
* Rather than continuing the zombie slaying antics of BSAA agents, you're taken back to the original outbreak "that underscored both Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis."
* The game doesn't require any crazy amounts of knowledge of the past titles or characters involved in the series. The title opens up to a "quartet of new faces". Essentially, you're playing as members of the official Umbrella Security Services squad.
* Operation Raccoon City is a team-based shooter allowing four members of the USS team to destroy all evidence of the ongoing outbreak. Along with slaying the zombies, you're looking to "kill pretty much every survivor possible".
* The gameplay is described as "dirty", and the series will feel much darker than it has up to this point.

Portal 2 to feature music by The National

Valve has announced that a song from the band The National will be featured in their upcoming game Portal 2.

Portal 2 is the sequel to Valve's 2007 award winning physics based puzzler.

Chet Faliszek, a writer at Valve, stated "For Portal 2, we wanted to extend the use of music. When Bug Music mentioned to us that The National might be interested, we jumped at the opportunity to work with them." It will definitely be interesting to hear a song from a well known band in Portal 2.

Portal 2 is slated to be released worldwide the week of April 18 for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac.

Beyond Good and Evil HD Review

Beyond Good and Evil Logo

Ubisoft and Michel Ancel's Beyond Good and Evil is back and getting a second chance at life in HD.

In the lush and vibrant planet Hillys things aren't quite what they seem. The normally peaceful planet is being attacked by the DomZ and the only military force around, the Alpha Sections, doesn't seem to be helping much. Enter our hero, a twenty-something female appropriately named Jade. As a photographer her main weapon throughout this action adventure is her camera as she works with the IRIS Network to uncover the truth about what's really going on. It's been described as the right game that came out at the wrong time, but even by today's standards it's still a little out of it's league.

Beyond Good & Evil

As a whole Beyond Good and Evil HD has little to complain about. Overall the controls aren't exceedingly difficult to learn, but like every other game they just take some getting used to. That said, for those who have played the original Xbox version, the controls have changed substantially. The only aspects that haven't noticeably changed in terms of maneuvers are the basic Jade and  hovercraft/Beluga movement controls. Ubisoft elected to switch the A and X action and defense buttons, the camera now uses the LB and RB which was a good choice on the redesigned controller, but the zoom and pan has been switched from the right joystick to zoom on the left stick and pan on the right stick.

Gears of War 3 Beta Update: Finalized Details

Since last week's vague announcement of the Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta and its tentative details and projected date of mid-April, a fierce plague of anticipation had stricken the Xbox community. But, now, that same anticipation will surely grow to overwhelming avidity due to the newly confirmed official dates and details.

April 25th kicks off Epic Games’ forthcoming multiplayer beta for Gears of War 3. Still unsatisfied? Well, if this doesn’t suit your fancy, then with a purchase of Bulletstorm Epic Edition, April 18th will mark the beta’s start for you. However, do note that from the 18th to the 25th the only game mode that will be available will be Team Death Match, but all four map areas will be present.

As of the 25th, the beta will be in full force providing the 2 remaining game modes, Capture the Leader and King of the Hill. According to Microsoft the beta will also feature “special events and playlists”.

As mentioned previously, exclusive items will be available to those who participate in the beta. Once earned, these items can then be ported over to the full version of the game upon it’s launch on September 20. 2011. The full list of in-beta items follows after the jump.
