The madness begins in Guerilla Games' visually striking First Person Shooter.

With the popularity of first person shooters having grown tremendously over the past few years, developers now find themselves hard at work trying to craft the most effective formula for a perfect shooter experience. Guerilla Games, the developer behind Sony’s exclusive action sci-fi based FPS franchise, Killzone, is by all means no exception.

Killzone 3, the most recent game in the series, is a fantastic display of what the PS3 is fully capable of and what an FPS should be. Showcasing stunning visuals and engaging gameplay, the game, is both entertaining and aesthetically pleasing.

The first key to the game's successful formula is its story. Though the plot itself is a bit weak, lacking depth and suspense, it is action packed. In this case, mindless fun isn't necessarily a bad thing, considering the fact that this is an action game and players spend 90% of their time in campaign mode either on foot or in a vehicle spewing thousands of bullets, grenades and rockets. At the same time, there is always good reason behind the explosive results.

Today Killzone 3 DLC, Steel Rain, was announced with a trailer. Thus far, no price or release date has been specified.

One of the new features the Steel Rain trailer showcased is a markedly epic looking jet pack. With Killzone and Reach, jet packs are apparently in. (We won't complain.) Expect Exoskeletons to make an appearance in the upcoming DLC as well.

Below follows brief statements from developer Guerrilla Games about both of the new maps:

MP-09 JUNKYARD Game Type: Guerrilla Warfare (16 players) Description: The junkyards of Helghan are a wasteland to some, but a valuable resource to others. In the main junk processing facility of Helghan, ISA and Helghast Forces are clashing in an attempt to salvage vehicles and supplies for their war effort. Jetpacks are the key to taking the high ground, but the huge Exoskeletons can quickly turn the tide of the battle on the ground.

MP-10 STAHL ARMS Game Type: Warzone (24 Players) Description: As the Helghast write a new and appalling chapter on humanoid experimentation, beleaguered ISA Forces mount a desperate attack on the notorious Stahl Arms research facility, where they hope to free ISA soldiers who have been taken captive. Stahl’s Helghast forces will stop at nothing to ensure that the ISA attack fails, even if it means exterminating the very prisoners they need for their weapons research.
