Kingdoms of Amalur Smart Level Scaling Revealed

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, the upcoming RPG by 38 Studios is looking better and better. 38 studios announced in a recent interview that the game will feature some interesting dynamics that are vastly different from other games in the same genre. Most of today large scale RPG's scale the level of the enemies so that players are faced with a challenge wherever you go. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has set enemy levels for the different areas of the game.

Systems designer Will Miller said regarding the different areas, “When the player first enters one of those regions, we clamp all of the region’s NPCs to the level of the player, provided he’s within the range. So if you’re a level 20 character and you go to a level five to ten area, we clamp it at ten. And if you’re too low, we clamp at the low value.

Reckoning: "Fate is a Weapon" Trailer

It could not have been more vague, but it said, "Fate is a Weapon." Check out the trailer below. Reckoning is a new action RPG from developer 38 Studios, slated for release on February 7, 2012.

Note that the writing of this game is being done by fantasy novelist R. A. Salvatore. Good writing is as important as any other element in a game, and Salvatore may be the perfect man for this job. This is sure to be one of the RPG hits of early 2012.
