Lawsuit Filed Against Gamestop

GameStop

A woman from Alameda County, California, Melissa Arechiga, has filed a suit against GameStop, accusing the games retailer of not only requesting but recording her personal information.

The suit, filed on Wednesday of this week, alleges that a GameStop employee had requested personal identification information (PII) from the customer, Melissa, who had purchased a product using methods of a credit card. The suit also goes on to allege that upon the insertion of this information into the electronic cash register’s database, the “employee made no attempt to erase, strikeout, eliminate, or otherwise delete plaintiff’s personal identification information”.

These accusations are in violation of California Civil Code section 1747.08, which prohibits the requesting and or recording of an individual’s personal identification information when said individual is engaged in a transaction using credit card as method of payment.

On a side note, as of February 10, 2011 the California Supreme Court ruled that zip code would be included as PII under the Song-Beverly Credit Card Act (the Song-Beverly Act).

GameStop was asked by IGN about the accusations, however, the spokesperson said the company is unable to comment on pending litigation.

Steel Rain DLC Announced for Killzone 3

KZ3 Steel Rain

Today Killzone 3 DLC, Steel Rain, was announced with a trailer. Thus far, no price or release date has been specified.

One of the new features the Steel Rain trailer showcased is a markedly epic looking jet pack. With Killzone and Reach, jet packs are apparently in. (We won't complain.) Expect Exoskeletons to make an appearance in the upcoming DLC as well.

Below follows brief statements from developer Guerrilla Games about both of the new maps:

MP-09 JUNKYARD Game Type: Guerrilla Warfare (16 players) Description: The junkyards of Helghan are a wasteland to some, but a valuable resource to others. In the main junk processing facility of Helghan, ISA and Helghast Forces are clashing in an attempt to salvage vehicles and supplies for their war effort. Jetpacks are the key to taking the high ground, but the huge Exoskeletons can quickly turn the tide of the battle on the ground.

MP-10 STAHL ARMS Game Type: Warzone (24 Players) Description: As the Helghast write a new and appalling chapter on humanoid experimentation, beleaguered ISA Forces mount a desperate attack on the notorious Stahl Arms research facility, where they hope to free ISA soldiers who have been taken captive. Stahl’s Helghast forces will stop at nothing to ensure that the ISA attack fails, even if it means exterminating the very prisoners they need for their weapons research.

Excited yet? You should be. Post a comment on your thoughts.

Pre-Order Homefront, Get an OnLive System

OnLive Microconsole

Cloud based gaming service OnLive has revealed a lucrative pre-order offer for THQ's soon to be released FPS, Homefront. As with competing service steam, they are including a free digital copy of Metro 2033 with all pre-orders.

In a surprising move, however, the incentives do not end there. From now until March 14th, and while supplies last, all OnLive subscribers who reserve their copy of Homefront will receive a voucher code redeemable for a free OnLive Microconsole (valued at $99)!

Subscribers will receive their code for a free Microconsole the same date the game is available, March 15.

MyGamerCard.net Closes Down

MGC Logo

Due to a decrease in support from Microsoft and list of other problems, the popular site MyGamerCard.net is being shut down. The site provided customizable Gamercards, in various shapes and sizes, as well as slices of other related information.

Here's part of their farewell message:

"...In the past few years, that love for community has been lost by Microsoft. The closure of customer-to-company community-centric interfaces (that weren't tech support (no disrespect towards the awesome @Xboxsupport!)) was a huge blow for Xbox fans. Especially those who really felt like they had a connection to the company they were spending their disposable income on. Similarly, the Xbox Community Developer Program – the program that was essentially created for MyGamerCard and a select few similarly broad-minded community projects – stagnated, with extremely few updates or new data features (despite constant requests), and waning communication as Xbox was not allocating any time to the program... Thank you again for your praises, suggestions, and criticisms; awards, interviews and invites; and Tweets, Friend Requests, emails, and posts. But most of all, thank you for being a part of MyGamerCard!"

You can find the rest of their farewell here. Leave a comment on your thoughts, or if you used MyGamerCard.net.
