PopCap purchased by Electronic Arts

EA Logo

In a huge, yet predicted move, Electronic Arts shelled out big bucks to snatch up PopCap Games. The asking price? A cool billion dollars in cash and stock.

EA's Ceo John Riccitiello stated that "EA and PopCap are a compelling combination, PopCap's great studio talent and powerful IP add to EA's momentum and accelerate our drive towards a $1 billion digital business. EA's global studio and publishing network will help PopCap rapidly expand their business to more digital devices, more countries, and more channels.

With EA's recent moves to reach social media sites and various app stores, the purchase of PopCap makes a lot of sense. PopCap games have been spotted on nearly every site, app store, and cell phone. This business move should help both of them achieve even greater numbers in the future.

PSN to be Incrementally Restored this Week

At a news conference today in Tokyo, Kaz Hirai, executive president of Sony Corporation, announced that the play station network will return this week. After hackers gained access to information from nearly 77 million accounts, the network was taken down on April 20th.

The network will be reinstated through a regional release. Online multiplayer will be available right away along with Playstation Home access. Users will be prompted upon signing in to update there password immediately, and will be only be allowed to do so on the console they originally signed up for PSN on, or through the usage of a verified email address.

Sony has also stated that a "Welcome Back" program will be available that will give users a free month of Playstation Plus, while existing Plus subscribers will be given one extra month. Various other downloads will also be offered free. It's definitely a good start for Sony but they still face a long road in order to put this entire situation behind them. Here's hoping that Sony will recover swiftly.

Super Monkey Ball 3D Review

Super Monkey Ball 3D

Super Monkey Ball makes its 3DS debut.

The Super Monkey Ball series has been slowly but steadily releasing new iterations each and every year. The games have crossed various platforms over the years and with the recent launch of the Nintendo 3DS, Sega has added another platform to its repertoire.

The main mode of Super Monkey Ball 3D is the classic mode that fans are familiar with. The player is in control of a moving platform and must maneuver the monkey ball around the area. Each level has various bananas to collect and some feature hidden secret items. The levels are timed so there is definitely a level of skill involved. With 7 worlds to play and multiple levels in each, there is a lot of rolling to be had. The 3D effects on this game mode are very well done. The world sees depth and you can have more precise movements with the added angle.
