EA Download 2012 Wrap Up


EA held their annual E3 press conference earlier today, kicking things off with a new trailer for Dead Space 3, along with a stage demo for the game's just confirmed co-op mode. Featuring drop in, drop out 2 player, we are introduced to a new character: John Carver. Also introduced was a new, hoth-like ice planet, sometime during act 2 of the game. Opting for less of the atmospheric scares of the first two games, in favor of large scale action, Dead Space 3 will hit stores next February. Next up, came Madden 13. Madden fans can expect a new graphics engine, called infinity, as well as an all new connected careers gameplay mode. Connected careers mode has a story surrounding your league, along with a (fictitious) in-game virtual twitter feed.

On the social gaming front, just as The Sims did last year, Sim City is hitting Facebook in a big way. Sim City: Social will be free to play, and will be coming to Facebook within the next few weeks. On a second Sim City note, a new PC based version has been announced, featuring a new graphics engine, and in a series first, multiplayer. Sim City will be launching for the PC next February.

Borrowing a page from Activision's book, Dice announced a Premium membership for Battlefield 3. Priced at $49.99, this service will provide members with 5 new expansion packs, 10 new weapons, and 10 new vehicles, as they are released. Battlefield 3 Premium subscriptions are now availab, cale.

Coming next month, Star Wars: The Old Republic will be offering limited, up to level 15 free to play functionality. Beyond the starter edition, a higher level cap, a new warzone, a new world, and a new playable species were also. All of this content will be delivered via automatically to SWTOR players via patch.

Following the brief SWTOR announcement, EA demoed ten minutes of the single player campaign in the upcoming Medal of Honor sequel, Medal of Honor: WarfighterPowered by the frostbite 2.0 engine, it appears as though particular detail was paid to environmental effects and real time lighting. Medal of Honor: Warfighter will be available October 23, 2012 on Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Fight fans will be glad to know that UFC has now entered in a multi-year, multi-game contract with EA Sports. Expect further details to be released at a later date. After the UFC announcement, Criterion Games took the stage to unveil (and later demo) their upcoming Need for Speed: Most Wanted reboot. Featuring an open world driving experience, improved physics, and autolog 2.0 functionality, Need for Speed: Most Wanted will launch on PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360 on October 30.

Last, but certainly not least, Crytek hit the stage to show off Crysis 3 single player. Featuring a familiar HUD and sharp CryEngine 3 powered visuals, Crysis 3 will hit stores next February 2013, for Xbox 360, PC, and Playstation 3.
